Received Notice the End of updates for Office 2021, Can I upgrade to Office 2024 without buying it?
Question:
I received a notification regarding the end of updates for Office 2021. Can I upgrade to Office 2024 without paying for a new license?
Mine is Office 2021 Home and Student.
Answer:
According to the Microsoft Office Home and Student 2021 purchase page, it's a one-time purchase product.
Unfortunately, no. If you have a Microsoft Office 2021 license, you cannot upgrade to Office 2024 for free. Office 2024 is a separate version that requires purchasing a new license.
But, you can continue using Office 2021 on your Windows computer.
However, since support ended on October 13, 2026, you will no longer receive security updates, bug fixes, or technical support from Microsoft.
If Office 2021 has been forcibly updated to Microsoft 365, you need to change the license back to Office 2021. After reopening the app, it won’t remind you anymore.
