Office OneNote 365 doesn't show tracks during drawing until the pen is raised

Qustion:

I am experiencing an issue in Microsoft OneNote where real-time drawing is not functioning as expected. When I attempt to draw using either my digital pen or mouse, the strokes do not appear on the page until I lift the pen or release the mouse button.

This issue significantly affects the usability of the application, as it disrupts the natural flow of drawing and makes it challenging to create accurate sketches or notes. The problem persists regardless of the input device used, indicating it is likely related to OneNote itself rather than hardware.

Here are some additional details to assist in troubleshooting:

  • The problem persists after restarting the application and the system.
  • Other drawing applications on the same device work correctly, ruling out hardware issues.
  • Steps like disabling hardware acceleration and adjusting pen settings have not resolved the issue.
  • OneNote online version is working fine. This issue is occurring only with OneNote Windows app.
  • Problem is occurring  even when when I am drawing with mouse.
  • I have checked and installed latest Updates for windows, OneNote and my Display Adapter.

Answer:

Based on when the problem occurred, I guessed it was probably due to a version update, so I changed the version of OneNote.

The environment in which the anomaly occurs is:

  • OneNote version: 2501
  • OneNote Build : 18429.20132
  • System version number: 24H2
  • OS version: 26100.2894

The environment when it returns to normal is:

  • OneNote version: 2411
  • OneNote Build : 18227.20152
  • System version number: 24H2
  • OS version: 26100.3037

This may be due to OneNote's inclusion in Copilot to recognize handwriting
